It has walking paths, tennis courts, a children’s playground and a large pond. There is also a Dog Park, where pets are welcome to run and play, and enjoy the company of other animals.
A popular recreational area, particularly in the summer months, is The Old Mill Park. Its facilities include many athletic fields, lighted tennis courts, a large public swimming area, and three playgrounds.
The Woodcliff Lake recreational department offers diverse programs such as pre-school day camps and summer camps, soccer camps, and tennis programs.
Although there are not any courses in the Woodcliff Lake borough, golfers will find many beautiful places in the surrounding Bergen County communities to perfect their game. Special Attractions/Events
The Bergen Museum of Art and Science is located in the nearby town of Paramus. It has wonderful interactive science exhibits, and hosts an annual Art Festival. The Bergen Performing Arts Center, in Englewood showcases the best in the performing arts, including performances by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
The Bergen County Zoological Park also located in Paramus, and open 365 days a year, is a popular regional destination for the young, and the young at heart. It is located in Van Saun County Park, and has a wonderful variety of wild and domestic animals living in natural habitats that have been recreated for each species. There are also many exotic birds and reptiles. The Zoo is a much-anticipated field trip many children who live in Bergen County.
One event that Woodcliff Lake residents look forward to is the annual Woodcliff Lake Day. It is a well-attended event that has something for everyone, with games, rides, water sports, musical performers, and of course, food!
Many of the pleasures around Woodcliff Lake have to do with water. Two beautiful lakes are less than a 10 minute drive from the borough, and the Hudson River is only 6 miles away, offering a variety of year-round recreational opportunities.
Interesting Facts/Historic Buildings and Places
The first settlers in this area of the Pascack Valley were the Alonquin Indians.
In 1894, the borough was incorporated as “Woodcliff”. The addition of “Lake” occurred in 1910, matching the community name with the existing name of the post office.
The Woodcliff Lake are has some historic buildings that date back to the 1700’s.
Wortendyke Barn is a colonial era Dutch barn that has been preserved as a Bergen County Historic Site.
Although the borough of Woodcliff Lake was intensely developed during the last half of the 20th century, there are still many older historic buildings among the newer construction.

Woodcliff Lake is considered a bedroom community of New York City, and New York is 24 miles to the southwest. There are a number of small communities within 5 miles of Woodcliff Lake, including Park Ridge, Hillsdale, Montvale, Washington Township, Saddle River, Westwood, Ho-Ho-Kus, and River Vale.
